The short version

• We do not run our own servers that store your personal data. Your workouts, routes, and profile live on your device and sync through your iCloud account (Apple CloudKit).
• We do not sell your data or show ads, and Ruckly runs no analytics or tracking of its own. Our maps provider, Mapbox, collects limited technical data (including location) for its own analytics as part of providing maps: see below.
• There is no account or password to create. Sync uses your Apple ID; challenges use a display name and initials you choose.
• The only third parties that receive data are Apple (iCloud, HealthKit, WeatherKit, the App Store) and Mapbox (maps, routing, and elevation).
• You can delete your data in the app at any time.

Information Ruckly handles

Location data. With your permission, Ruckly uses your device location (including in the background during an active workout) to record your route, distance, pace, and elevation. Your recorded routes are saved with your workouts.

Motion and fitness data. With your permission, Ruckly uses motion data to count steps and detect elevation changes during a workout.

Apple Health (HealthKit) data. With your permission, Ruckly reads your body weight and heart rate (including from Apple Watch when you wear one during a workout) to improve workout scoring and add heart-rate stats to summaries, and writes completed workouts, distance, and active energy back to Apple Health. Workout, route, and profile data you create. Saved workouts and their stats (distance, pace, elevation, calories, RuckScore, heart-rate zones, notes, tags), planned routes and waypoints, training goals and preferences, the display name and initials you set, your preferred body weight, units, and pack settings.

Challenge data. If you create or join a challenge, your chosen display name and initials and your progress toward the challenge metric (for example total distance, sessions, elevation, or RuckScore) are shared with the other participants. Invite links use a token that is stored only in hashed form.

Purchase data. Subscriptions are handled by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes your payment and tells Ruckly only whether you have an active subscription. We never receive your payment card details.

Notifications. With your permission, Ruckly sends notifications such as workout cues, off-route alerts, training reminders, and challenge updates, and uses Apple Push Notification service and CloudKit notifications to keep data in sync.

What we do not collect

• We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or a password (there is no Ruckly account).
• We do not use advertising or marketing networks.
• Ruckly runs no analytics of its own and uses no attribution or cross-app tracking SDKs. The one embedded SDK that collects data is Mapbox, our maps provider, which collects limited technical data for its own analytics: see the Mapbox entry below.
• We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.

How your data is stored and shared

Your data is stored on your device first, then synced through Apple and shared only as needed with the service providers below.

On your device. Your data is stored locally on your device first.

Your private iCloud (Apple CloudKit). Your workouts, routes, profile, and settings sync through your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit private database. This data is tied to your Apple ID, and Ruckly's developers cannot read it.

Challenges (Apple CloudKit public database). Challenge records (your display name and initials, your progress metrics, and the hashed invite token) are stored in Ruckly's CloudKit public database so you and the other participants can see standings. These records do not contain your GPS tracks or your health data. They are accessible to challenge participants and to us for operating the feature.

Apple. iCloud/CloudKit (sync and challenges), HealthKit (health data, on your device), WeatherKit (your location is sent to Apple to return local weather and safety context), the App Store and StoreKit (purchases), and Apple Push Notification service. Apple's handling is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Mapbox. To display maps and to snap routes and calculate elevation, the coordinates you view or plan are sent to Mapbox. The Mapbox Maps SDK included in the app also collects limited technical data for Mapbox's own app-functionality and analytics purposes: your precise and approximate location, a Mapbox-generated identifier, usage data (such as how you interact with the map), and diagnostic and performance data. We do not link this information to your identity, and it is not used to track you across apps or services. Mapbox's handling is governed by the Mapbox privacy policy.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

Ruckly's use of HealthKit data is limited to the features you see in the app, and is never used for advertising, marketing, or data-mining purposes. We never sell HealthKit data or share it with third parties, and it is not uploaded to Ruckly's developers; it stays on your device and in your own Apple Health store.

• We read body weight and heart rate only to improve scoring and show stats in your summaries.
• We write workouts, distance, and active energy so your rucks count toward Activity.

Apple Watch

Ruckly includes an Apple Watch app. If you use it, the watch measures your heart rate during workouts through Apple Health so your sessions show live effort and heart-rate zones. Heart rate recorded on the watch is handled exactly like the other Apple Health data described above: it stays on your device and in your own Apple Health, is shared directly between your iPhone and Apple Watch to show live stats during a workout, and is never uploaded to Ruckly's developers, sold, or used for advertising.

The watch app does not include maps and sends no data to Mapbox.

How we use your data

We use the data above only to operate and improve the app's features for you: tracking and saving workouts, planning and downloading routes, adapting your training, calculating your RuckScore and stats, running challenges, and sending the notifications you enable. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.

Permissions and your choices

Location, Motion & Fitness, Apple Health, and Notifications are all optional and requested only when a feature needs them. You can grant or revoke any of them at any time in the iOS Settings app (and Health permissions in the Health app). Ruckly continues to work with reduced functionality if a permission is off.

Data retention and deletion

Your data is kept until you delete it. You can delete individual workouts and routes in the app, and you can delete your Ruckly data from the app's settings. Removing the app deletes the data stored on that device; data synced to your iCloud is managed through your Apple ID and iCloud settings. Challenge records you created can be removed by deleting the challenge.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA/CPRA). Because most of your data lives on your device and in your private iCloud, you can exercise many of these rights directly in the app and in iOS. For anything else, contact us below. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Children

Ruckly is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Data transfers and security

Data handled by Apple and Mapbox may be processed on their infrastructure in various countries, subject to their respective safeguards. We rely on Apple's and Mapbox's security measures and on iOS device protections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we design Ruckly to minimize the data that ever leaves your device.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above and, where appropriate, with an in-app notice.
